Facebook has teamed up with BT Sport and Mirror Football to launch its inaugural Facebook Football Awards, offering fans worldwide the opportunity to vote for which team they believe has performed best during the 2014/15 season.

Up for grabs will be awards for player and young player of the year as well as club of the year. Participants will also be able to choose their dream starting 11 for the BT Sport Best XI award.

Fans can vote for their favourites using their social network accounts or via the Facebook pages for both BT Sport and Mirror Football through to 11 May.

Glenn Miller of Facebook sports partnerships said: “The Facebook Football Awards are the only awards dedicated to celebrating the Premier League, where fans around the globe have the power to decide who deserves to win for their performance over the course of the season. That’s what the Facebook Fan Awards are all about. We want to give the millions of football fans on Facebook the opportunity to share their knowledge and love for the game by celebrating the players, clubs and fans they feel deserve recognition.”

“By combining the power of print, broadcast and digital we can connect fans to more of the content they want and bring them closer to the players, teams and the game they love.”

John Cross, Chief Football Writer for the Mirror said: “Social media is a key part of Mirror Football’s offering, both in the way we deliver the latest stories direct to the fans and also the way we interact with fans online. Mirror Football has a hugely popular Facebook page and we’ve built up a real community of football fans who interact with our stories, creating a fanzine-like experience.”

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 26 May broadcast live on BT Sport 1.
