Age UK has launched its own version of the current Facebook Friends push as it looks to highlight loneliness among the older generation.

The No Friends poster campaign, created by JWT, features images of solitary elderly people and aims to promote the services offered by Age UK. According to the charity more than one million older people go more than a month a time without speaking to or seeing another person.

Marianne Hewitt, head of brand at Age UK, said: "It's time we took loneliness seriously as a threat to a happy and healthy later life. We need to do more to support older people to stay socially connected: this is a big part of our job at Age UK and everyone can help by being a good friend or neighbour to the older people they know."

The campaign also encourages people to text donate £3, which could help provide older people with support and advice.
