Facebook’s censors have been forced to revoke a ban on an image of a baby boy born without a nose following a backlash from members.

A pro-life campaign group had initially posted a picture of Timothy Eli Thompson to publicise the story of the boy born without nasal passages or sinus cavities but was subsequently taken down by Facebook on the grounds that it was ‘too controversial’.

The rare condition doesn’t impact on health and Thompson is currently living at home with his parents in Alabama, prompting an angry response from his mum, Brandi McGlathery, who said: “Excuse my language, but I’ll be damned if Facebook keeps me from sharing my baby’s story!

“It sickens me that I can see pictures of half-naked women, drugs, & negativity, but my child is too ‘controversial’. What has happened to humanity?”

The resulting fracas saw the spat shared 30,000 times before Facebook higher-up’s intervened and revoked the ban.
