Opportunistic touts capitalising upon the popularity - and shortage - of the Apple Watch have been punting their pre-orders on eBay for sums eclipsing what the wearables are actually worth.

On the news that already the Apple Watch, which was made available for pre-order today (Friday 10 April) , has been back-ordered for the next four to six weeks, over thirty pre-order confirmations were uploaded to eBay for sale.

Both the pre-orders of 38 and 42mm Sport edition are shifting for around £700 whereas the stainless steel model is to date fetching over £1,149.

Notably, due to the shortage of the products, vendors are selling the smartwatch pre-orders with estimated dispatch times only.

The gold Apple Watch Edition is also listed with a 'Buy It Now' price of £13,567.89, a premium model which starts at £8,000 on the Apple Store website.

Apple anticipated such high demand for the products, earlier this week encouraging staff to urge consumers to order the wearables online to avoid long queues and disappointment.
