The first wrist-on review of Apple’s much hyped new product line has concluded that the gadget is something to watch out for.

Apple Watch is still a few weeks away from its official release date of 24 April but The Telegraph’s head of technology, Matt Warman, has been able to skip the queue to get hold of one of the first devices to be released into the wild.

Recounting his experience Warman described the hi-tech watch as ‘by far the best smartwatch I’ve used’, adding that it is a ‘beautiful fashion accessory’ and ‘almost infinitely customisable’.

One area of early concern was battery life but Warman scotches such fears, reporting that his watch would easily make it through a day of even intensive usage… and almost two days if used intermittently.

The device truly came into its own as a health and fitness app however with a welter of stats and statistics being churned out by the watch on everything from calories burned to distance travelled.

Retailing for between £299 and £13,500 Warman advises Apple fans looking to splash some cash to hold off for now, pointing out (as is always the case with new technology) that ‘version two or three will be even better’.

Warman concluded: “It’s not novel, but as is so often the way with Apple it takes existing functions and does them better.”
