NBC’s ‘Nightly News’ fell to second place in the evening newscast lineup with its first loss in viewership for six years.

The loss during the week of March 30 through April 3, was the program’s first total viewer loss since September 2009, according to Nielsen data provided by NBC. Since February, the newscast has been hosted by Lester Holt after Brian Williams was suspended for six months after falsely claiming that he was in a helicopter that was shot at while reporting in Iraq in 2003.

ABC’s ‘World News’ saw an average of 7.997 million viewers for the week, with the ‘Nightly News’ average coming in at 7.913 million viewers.

CBS ‘Evening News’ came in third with an audience of 6.575 million.

This comes amidst a shake-up at the network as it tries to attract and retain younger viewers. Earlier this year, NBC News appointed former NBC exec Andy Lack as chairman of NBC News and MSNBC.
