Nominations for the 2015 BAFTA Awards have been live-streamed via Twitter-owned Periscope this morning, the first time that the platform has been embraced by a major UK awards ceremony.

British actor Freddie Fox and actress Amanda Abbington first announced on Twitter that nominations would be broadcast live direct to iOS smartphones on which the Periscope app has been installed.

This allows people following @BAFTA to share and view live broadcasts complete with notifications and alerts when new content is available.

Pippa Irvine, digital communications manager at BAFTA, said:"We're excited to be using Periscope to broadcast this year's House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards nominations announcement live to the public.

“It's the first time that BAFTA has used the Periscope app and we're full of ideas about how this technology can be used to bring the experience of the BAFTAs to wider audiences than ever before."
