Daily Show host Jon Stewart voices support for successor Trevor Noah.

Upon his return after a week-long hiatus, Daily Show host Jon Stewart almost immediately addressed concerns that had risen last week over the appointment of his successor, Trevor Noah.

Noah, a South African comedian, received criticism over some of his older tweets that some interpreted as anti-Semitic.

However Stewart, who is Jewish, said that Noah is an “incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual.”

He urged his viewers to give the comedian a chance.

“I can say this, I think, without hesitation,” said Stewart, “Trevor Noah will earn your trust and respect. Or not. Just as I earned your trust and respect – or did not,” he remarked.

“Or sometimes I earned it, and lost it, and then kind of got it back, but then it was like, ‘Fuck that guy,’ and then it was like, ‘Oh, that rally was so stupid I’m never gonna—no! I hate him!’ It kind of just goes that way.”

Comedy Central has yet to announce dates for Stewart’s departure and Noah’s premiere.
