Microsoft has launched Office Lens, an app which would allow iOS and Android users to scan documents by taking pictures with their devices and import them into OneNote.

The app itself however, isn’t entirely new. It was initially launched last year, but only worked on Windows devices.

The launch is one of a series of Microsoft’s efforts to embrace non-Windows phones. Such progression has also been made with Office and Outlook.

Despite being Microsoft product, the app may face challenges as it competes with already-established mobile scanning programs, such as Scanbot and Scanner Pro.

Office Lens is currently free in app stores.
