March Madness Kentucky vs. Notre Dame Elite Eight game sets ratings record for college basketball

The NCAA Tournament Elite Eight game between Kentucky and Notre Dame that aired on TBS on Saturday 28 March delivered the highest overnight rating for college basketball in cable television history, according to Nielsen.

Turner Sports and CBS Sports’ exclusive coverage of the Regional Final doubleheader, which included Kentucky vs. Notre Dame and Wisconsin vs. Arizona, produced the highest rating for the Saturday Elite Eight game windows in 10 years.

The Kentucky vs. Notre Dame telecast was up 53 per cent over last year’s comparable game. The Arizona vs. Wisconsin game saw a 24 per cent increases from the year prior.

NCAA March Madness has had a record year so far, with 67 millon live video streams and 14 million live hours of video consumption through Saturday March 28, up 12 per cent and 13 per cent from 2014.

The tournament has also set a record of 166 million total social impressions across Facebook and Twitter through the second Thursday of the games, a 36 per cent increase over 2014.
