Amazon is reportedly locked in talks to purchase luxury retailer Net-a-Porter according, a deal which could amount to the online retailers largest ever purchase if confirmed.

Forbes states that whilst talks are continuing a deal is ‘far from complete’ indicating that discussions may be at an early stage and scotching suggestions that the sums involved would hit $2.19bn.

Neither party has confirmed the rumour but a deal would make sense from Amazon’s point of view as it seeks to establish a name for itself in the high-end market – where margins are higher.

In the 12 months leading to 29 March 2014 Net-a-Porter raked in $835m, a 23 per cent increase on the previous year, sufficient to trim losses to $20m from $31m previously.
