Consumer Fake-out: Budweiser uses classic marketing tool to fool Brooklynites, see some of our other favorite fake-outs

Budweiser, led by Weber Shandwick, has released a video (below) in which Brooklynites try the beer, thinking it is a newer, more exclusive brew. They are shocked, and delighted to find that they are drinking a Bud.

However, the technique of faking-our consumers is not a new one. In fact it has proven to be effective over the years, being a popular choice for major brands such as Febreeze, Walmart, and Bing.

It is one generally used by brands that are trying to prove themselves to be delectable to both a mass clientele, and an exclusive tongue.

Fake outs are done either by fooling a customer into thinking he is testing a more high-end product than he is, or by simply having him try a product he wouldn’t normally use.
