The New York Times boasted a full-page ad, taken out by Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, warning President Obama to rescind the declaration, made last week, that the country was a threat to the US.

The advertisement, titled “Letter to the people of the United States: Venezuela is not a threat” also requests the removal of sanctions placed on seven top Venezuelan officials.

Under the sanctions, the officials are not allowed visit the US or partake in any US business.

“It is a tyrannical and imperial order and it pushes us back to the darkest days of the relationship between the United States and Latin American and the Caribbean,” the ad read.

The sanctions were initially put in place for human rights violations and corruption in Venezuela’s economy.
