Marriott has pledged to help train and employ 20,000 members of Europe’s 16-26 year olds by 2020.

The global hotel chain is looking to give a significant number of Europe’s unemployed youth, placements, apprenticeships and development courses, building upon the 4,000 opportunities it has created in the region since 2012.

As part of the initiative, positions in the front of house, back of house, technology, catering, food and beverage, marketing sectors will be opened up.

Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International Europe, said: “As a hotel group, we depend on talented people in order to survive, hotels are a people business, and although technology and mobile connectivity have enhanced the industry, it will, at its heart, always remain a people business.

“It has been extraordinary to watch the progress and commitment of these young people rise up through the ranks of our company, and seeing them enjoy a huge sense of pride and ambition. It also makes a significant difference to the success of the company."

With the help of its charitable partners, the Prince's Trust and SOS Children’s Villages, the Marriott has said it will open the slots to disadvantaged youths, those in higher education and university graduates.
