Charity Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) has launched a campaign to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Hampton Court Palace, following the success of the Tower of London poppy installation, a property the charity also owns.

The campaign features hundreds of volunteers who together created an image of the number 500 and a goblet being filled, which was then filmed from the air using a drone and a camera crane.

The content will appear as five-second, 10-second and 20-second digital out-of-home (OOH) at Waterloo station for one week from today (16 March) along with video-on-demand, static OOH and press. There will also be a longer 50-second film and a behind the scenes piece, while social media activity will share personal stories from some of the volunteers.

To create the campaign, HRP worked with ad agency The Corner and creative partner B-Reel which brought on board choreographer and movement director Francesca James to instruct the volunteers.

Amanda Cole, head of marketing at HRP commented: “This campaign is an excellent example of a true integration where the creative idea works equally as well in advertising as in social media.

“The result is a wonderful campaign that helps us promote Hampton Court Palace as a modern, living entity and a place that makes history fun for all ages.”

The campaign kicks off a year’s worth of special events and activities to promote the anniversary.
