Apple CEO Tim Cook tried to offer liver to dying Steve Jobs
Apple chief executive Tim Cook offered the company’s former leader Steve Jobs part of his liver, according to a new book on Jobs.
The news emerged in ‘Becoming Steve Jobs’, a book written by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli. It claims that Tim Cook offered his friend and boss part of his liver despite the chances of a match being miniscule.
According to the text, Jobs turned down Cook’s offer despite the fact that Cook's liver could regenerate if a small enough portion was donated. Although Jobs eventually received a transplant in 2009, he died two years later after his pancreatic cancer relapsed.
Before Jobs’ death in 2011, Google chairman Eric Schmidt admitted: “What Steve has done at Apple, it's certainly the best performance of a CEO in 50 years, and maybe in 100 years.”
Earlier this week Tim Cook unveiled the Apple Watch, the company's first new product released in the post-Jobs era.
