Hailo has pipped ride-hailing rivals Uber and Lyft to the post by developing the first taxi app for Apple’s new smartwatch, the Apple Watch.

‘The Black Cab App’ which prides itself in using only licensed drivers, has become the first firm in its category to create an app for the Apple Watch – which was unveiled to the public 9 March during a special event

From their wrist, users can order and track their taxi on their smartwatch. The firm claims ‘Getting a Hailo is as simple as checking the time’.

Gary Bramall, Hailo chief marketing officer, said: “We’re impressed with the brilliantly casual way the Apple Watch amplifies simplicity and eliminates the smallest little daily frictions. The device gives us an exciting opportunity to streamline our UI and make hailing a taxi so good there’s almost no interface at all.

“There is a ‘social awareness’ moment when ordering a cab, the gesture of taking your phone out of your bag or pocket or even just looking at it is a bit of a faux pas when you’re at a dinner table, engaged in conversation."

He concluded: “With the Apple Watch, you can order a Hailo in a discreet way and safely whizz away in a taxi in no time.”

This comes after the firm in January announced that it was looking to secure a number of high profile brand partnerships in the next phase of its strategy to “win London”.
