“Ice Cream,” one of the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing’s (NASCAR) latest spots, features driver Carl Edwards in the role of an engineering teacher in a classroom of students.

The spot is part of the company’s push to try and potentially grow the sports’ younger fan base.

The spot is part of NASCAR’s “Acceleration Nation” program, which aims to “steer” primary school students into greater proficiency within the subjects of science, technology, engineering, and math.

During the spot, which initially aired during the Daytona 500 on 22 Feb, Edwards teaches the students about NASCAR racing before one student convinces him to take the class out for ice cream.

NASCAR hopes that the spot draws parents and kids to their new website, where students can play educational games and learn math and science “the NASCAR way.”

The video was produced in partnership with creative agency Ogilvy & Mather New York.
