A Tesco executive suspended from his post following the discovery of accountancy irregularities has reportedly quit just weeks after being reinstated.

One of nine managers to be caught up in a scandal surrounding a profit overstatement to the tune of £250m McCurley, a senior buying executive at the supermarket chain’s convenience division, was subsequently returned to his desk after being exonerated of any wrongdoing.

According to Sky News Sean McCurley departed in unclear circumstances amidst a wider managerial cull as the retailer seeks to drive down costs.

Tesco has refused to comment on McCurley’s departure but Sky News report that at least four other executives embroiled in the affair have already beaten a path to the exit door.

An unfavourable commercial environment for the firm has seen it retrench its store presence and slash jobs and prices in an effort to regain competitiveness.
