Vice Media-owned magazine i-D has appointed Dazed Group's Ravi Amaratunga to the newly created role of global group director of film and video as it looks to ramp up global expansion plans partly driven by video content.

A former editor at Channel 4, Amaratunga will oversee all video programming and strategy for i-D, which is this year celebrating its 35th anniversary.

At Dazed Group, Amaratunga set up the fashion publisher’s video arm, Dazed Vision, where he produced the Music Nation series broadcast on Channel 4.

He said of his appointment: "I'm really thrilled to be joining a truly global brand like i-D at a time of real expansion. The ambition and scale of style culture video programming I'll be overseeing with an incredible team is extremely exciting.

"I hope to bring my broadcast experience to help craft something really distinctive across several channels that speaks to young consumers, and changes the way mainstream audiences see style culture as a whole."

Local editorial teams will continue to feed into international content created at i-D's London HQ under editor-in-chief, Holly Shackleton and Amaratunga.

i-D is preparing a host of events and activity planned both on and offline over the course of the 35th anniversary year and will release a bumper print issue.
