After 28 years, MTV executive Van Toffler has said that he will be leaving the network in April.

He started in the business department at MTV in 1987 before rising to his current position as president of Viacom’s Music and Logo Group, where he supervises MTV, MTV2, VHI, VHI Classic, CMT and Logo. He will now be launching a content creation and acquisition company that’s currently named “Below the Radar.”

In a note to MTV staff, Toffler said: "To be clear, this is a very personal decision about pursuing the loud and insatiable part of my failed musician/poet soul that needs to purely make great stuff.”

After leaving, he will still help produce some events such as the “MTV Video Music Awards.”
