A bitter exchange of claims and counter claims between two of South Korea’s largest electronics firms looks set to put Samsung’s notorious animosity with Apple in the shade after a senior LG executive was forced to deny that he’d sabotaged washing machines belonging to the electronics and home appliance giant.

Jo Seong-Jin, head of LG’s home appliance division, was depicted in surveillance footage, alongside two other employees ‘testing’ washing machine doors in a German shop.

Despite being watched by several Samsung employees at the time some damage was said to have occurred as a result of these actions, leading LG to stump up compensation several weeks later.

In an effort to clear its name LG has uploaded an edited version of the footage to YouTube in which Seong-Jin can be observed applying vertical pressure to a hinge as several Samsung employees look on.

Seong-Jin’s lawyer said: “It is questionable whether there is sufficient evidence to prove that the president of a global company deliberately destroyed the machines where employees of the competing company were present.”
