Google readies DIY kit part smartphone for general release
Google is readying itself to introduce the latest innovation to the smartphone market, a DIY kit part device which will allow purchasers to fully customise their mobile experience.
Dubbed Project Ara the initiative features customisable hardware allowing components to be clipped together as required, reducing wastage associated with annual upgrade cycles by allowing users to pick and mix the attributes most important to them.
Accessories such as a camera or better display can then be added onto this base with individual ‘modules’ priced at between $50 and $100.
The first working demonstration model of one such configuration is expected to be demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
