CBS News has led the tributes being paid to 60 Minutes reporter Bob Simon who was killed in a car accident in Manhattan on Wednesday evening (11 February.)

While sending images of the veteran journalist at work through his career, the US broadcaster of his show, 60 Minutes has described him as a ‘reporter’s reporter’.

The 73-year-old's career spanned over five decades, and while he reported on many war zones, he was arguably best known for his contributions to 60 Minutes, where he was a regular host.

In one piece outlining his career, CBS News said: “In America, he's Bob Simon. In Israel, he was simply "Bub." Life as a foreign correspondent”, which linked through to a piece on Simon.

Others have taken to the microblogging platform to pay tribute upon learning of his death, including former CNN newsman Larry King, Yahoo’s global news anchor Katie Couric and former CBS and NBC journalist Maria Shriver.

"My heart goes out to Bob's family. I worked with him. True journalist." tweeted Shriver.
