Facebook has implemented new tools to make buying and selling easier on the website in a move which could see it snatch up some of Gumtree and Craigslist's users.

Members of dedicated buy and sell groups on the social network can now choose to create a ‘Sell post’ which will offer viewers information such as item descriptions, the item's price and pick-up or delivery details.

Sellers will now also be able to mark items as ‘Available’ or ‘Sold’ to increase the transparency of transactions on the website.

A Facebook statement reads: “These new features will roll out to all Facebook For Sale Groups in the coming months. Facebook Group admins who would like to participate now can nominate their Group here.

“We will continue to introduce new features in the coming months to help people in the For Sale Group community easily connect, browse and search.”

The features will be available to web browsers in addition to users of iOS and Android apps.
