Shell is set to roll out pump-side mobile payments for motorists using a dedicated mobile app with PayPal functionality throughout the UK.

The Shell Motorist (or PayPal) app will allow drivers to pay for gas at the majority of Shell's 1,000 UK petrol stations following a successful trial period in 2013, according to the Telegraph.

The scheme will start hitting Shell outlets from April with a full expansion set for the back end of 2015.

Michael Hominick, retail marketing manager at Shell UK, claimed: “Customers will now have the flexibility and convenience of paying without having to leave their car. Those who want to go in store and pay or purchase other items will still be able to, with the benefit of reduced queues.”

The Shell Motorist App is available on iOS and Android, allowing users to receive special offers, loyalty points and keep track of transactions.
