Leaked photos of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 suggest that the smartphone maker’s flagship device could come in five designs in an attempt to appeal to its broadest range of users yet.

The images, obtained by Cnet Korea, include a glimpse of what looks like three variants of the standard Galaxy S6 as well as two for the curvier Galaxy Note Edge. Some of the models are in different casings. The S6 is rumoured to come in four colours – gold, white, blue and green.

The material appears to eschew the silvery plastic approach of previous models in favour of an aluminium build that would be the first Samsung devices to sport a full metal back. It suggests a more premium build for the range that could sport a sleeker design.

If real, the designs signal that the business will concentrate its push for the premium end of the mobile market through the S6. Samsung announced last year that it would ramp up marketing for its mid-to-low end smartphones and separately admitted that the S6’s predecessor the S5 had not sold as well as it had hoped.

The performance contributed to a sales dip in 2014 that saw it lose ground on Apple. The S5 missed sales targets by around 40 per cent, Samsung has revealed, putting more pressure on the latest model to lead its turnaround.

Samsung is expected to unveil the range at Mobile World Conference in Barcelona next month.
