Business networking specialists LinkedIn has reported a 44 per cent rise in year-on-year revenues for the fourth quarter to reach $643m, beating analysts’ expectations of $617m.

The hike saw full tear revenues come in at a healthy $2.2bn, itself a 45 per cent rise on 2013 when that figure was just $1.5bn. Of this more than half, 60 per cent, was generated in the US with the rest accumulated internationally.

Driving this performance was recruitment, marketing and premium subscriptions; sectors which experienced an uplift of 41, 56 and 38 per cent respectively over the quarter.

LinkedIn chief Jeff Weiner commented: "The fourth quarter capped another successful year for LinkedIn, which was marked by steady member growth and strong financial results. We continued to make significant progress against a number of multi-year, strategic initiatives including mobile, jobs, content, and global expansion."
