Idris Elba is to host a 20-part digital series for the BBC on its new experimental Taster platform.

The five-minute "Story of Now" films, which cover subjects including creation, art, consciousness, morality, religion and information, are fronted by Elba who guides viewers on how to watch and interact with the series via TouchCast’s interactive video technology.

TouchCast Studios UK chief executive and "Story of Now" executive producer, Paul Field, said: “Story Of Now pushes the boundaries of creativity and intellectual debate, asking fundamental questions about the human condition and the key events, ideas and innovations that led us to where we are right now.

“It is entirely apt that 'Story Of Now', with it’s wonderful and diverse line-up of new presenters and the breath-taking scope of the ground they cover, uses a ground- breaking technology to surprise, delight and challenge its audience."

Brand strategists Lambie-Nairn developed the look and feel of the films.

The BBC launched Taster earlier this week to develop and test ideas for digital content and technology, which audiences can watch and rate.
