The Sunday Herald has carried an advert taken out by fans of Celtic FC to deny that its Glasgow rival Rangers is the same club it was before being placed into liquidation in 2012.

A source close to the campaign behind the advert, which was run through users of the site, Celtic Quick News, has informed The Drum that it cost around £1,600 to take out in the Glasgow title, a week before the two clubs meet in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Reports elsewhere have claimed that the advert cost £3,000 in total to produce and distribute.

Within their statement, which some Celtic fans have distanced themselves from through social media, it is claimed that the current occupiers of Ibrox stadium are a new entity, and as a result, the Old Firm games are a thing of the past.

The advert has obviously not gone down with fans of Rangers, who have reacted angrily to its claims.

The Drum was awaiting comment from the Sunday Herald on why it chose to run the advert so close before the game at the time of writing.
