The Daily Mirror today (Saturday 24 January) published a bird watching article on Page 3 featuring many 'tits' in a playful jab at its tabloid rival the Sun.

Following media reports that the Sun was canning page three earlier this week – just to have the publication announce it had no such intention, rival tabloid the Daily Mirror launched a special Page 3 feature in homage to the beautiful birds at Stover Country Park in Devon, including blue tits, great tits, coal tits and some bullfinches.

The Mirror announced the feature in a release: “We have a special page three treat for readers tomorrow – not just one pair of tits, but a whole montage!"

The Daily Mirror's page 3 promoted the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch running across the UK this weekend, helping the charity drive buzz, asking the UK public to count the birds in their garden for an hour and publish their findings on the RSPB website.

So far, the scheme has seen 183,034 individuals take part, with 1,612 results submitted to the RSPB website documenting a total of 49,118 birds.

Following the return of Page 3, The Sun head of PR, Dylan Sharpe, came under fire for gloatingly tweeting a topless model to prominent broadcasters and Labour MP Harriet Harmon.
