Irreverent bookmakers Paddy Power are throwing their weight behind former footballer and shampoo afficianado David Ginola, as he attempts to wrest Sepp Blatter from his perch as president of scandal plagued football governing body FIFA.

The Frenchman will stand against FIFA official Jerome Champagne and FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein to take on the role - but must obtain the support of at least five national associations prior to the 29 January and Blatter remains the odds on favourite to win.

Lucky Generals and M&C Saatchi PR are working with bookies to coordinate Ginola’s campaign with a press launch later today but speaking to The Sun the former Tottenham star said: “I know it will not be easy for me to be elected but I have to try. I'm not interested in dwelling on the sins of the past, this is about taking football forward and putting supporters at the centre of the game.”

It is not the first time the FIFA presidency has been subject to a PR stunt with Brewdog having backed Blatter with a tongue firmly in cheek campaign last summer.
