Amazon Studios tasks Woody Allen with directing his first ever TV entry
Amazon Studios has snapped up Hollywood director Woody Allen to create an exclusive show for the Prime Instant Video service.
The director has been commissioned to write and direct a series of 30-minute episodes of a yet-to-be-specified show.
Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios, said: “Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all time, and it’s an honour to be working with him on his first television series.
“From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”
Woody Allen added: "I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."
Whatever show Allen finally delivers will be exclusively available on Prime Instant Video in the US, UK and Germany. This comes after the studio saw unprecedented success at the Golden Globes on Sunday with Transgender drama Transparent winning two awards.
Amazon Studios launched in 2010 as a new way to develop feature films and episodic series.
The news comes after Amazon Prime Instant Video’s marketing and merchandise director Russell Morris told The Drum it would look to boost marketing under the Studios brand, rather than just for individiual shows - as it has done to date.
