Jaguar Land Rover has given Britain’s motor industry a boost after announcing that its first Jaguar SUV will be manufactured at its Solihull plant, creating 1,300 jobs in the process.

Announcing the move Jaguar chief Dr Ralph Speth said it demonstrated ‘commitment to the UK and the advancement of a high-tech, high-skilled, manufacturing-led economy’ and was part of a commitment to building vehicles ‘crafted with that special British flair’.

The decision is set against surging domestic demand for new vehicles which surged to a 10 year high in 2014 of 2.37m cars.

The Ford Fiesta remains Britain’s best-selling car with the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa following close behind.
