BT Sport has angered Manchester City fans after some deemed its latest advert a “disgrace” for featuring an expletive-riddled chat about the club usually sung by rival Manchester United fans.

The broadcaster has turned the traditional Christmas Carol scene on its head for its latest campaign, replacing the festive fare usually sung by a choir with a myriad of football chants. It aims to inject some humour into the advertising for the channel’s Premier League December games as it looks to laud its own lineup over rival Sky Sports own.

Some City fans have not seen the funny side and have called for a boycott of the channel. Much of the discontent has been channelled through the club’s MCFC forum where fans have accused BT Sport of glorifying United’s dislike of City. However, not all supporters have taken offence and have pointed out the ad's inclusion of their trademark “Let’s all do the Poznan celebration” offsets the notion that the broadcaster is attempting to mock the club.

The advert also features chants sung by Arsenal and Chelsea supporters are also included in the advert.

It is not the first time BT Sport’s advertising has angered football fans. Earlier this year, the broadcaster took a thinly veiled swipe at Arsenal fans in a series of adverts that promoted its coverage of games when the London side were hammered 5-1 and 6-0 by Liverpool and Chelsea respectively. It prompted wild reaction for Arsenal fans on social media with some threatening to cancel their subscription to the channel.
