A spoof tampon advert devised by clueless men has been garnering praise from feminists for its irreverent approach at highlighting what men don’t know about periods.

Purportedly devised by an all-male advertising team the cringeworthy two minute piece sings the virtues of Tampax in the style of a bog standard product piece but with a comedy voiceover.

Produced by Hammerkatz, a sketch comedy group at New York University, the piece opens with the line: “It’s literally impossible to know when your period will hit – once a month, twice a month, 15 times a month, 100 times a day.”

It then goes onto introduce a woman who observes: “We're women on the go. We need a tampon that works with our lifestyles. That's why we use Tampax, the perfect tampon... for that thing that happens."

Meanwhile a narrator intones: “Studies show that Tampax tampons absorb 75 per cent more blood, sweat, tears, mucus and cool blue Gatorade than the competing brand. Because you're a woman, and these things come out of you."
