Ben Stiller, Steve Carell and Rob Lowe have all weighed into criticise the move, with talk-show king Jimmy Kimmel and filmmaker Judd Apatow also apopleptic.
A flabbergasted Lowe, who has a cameo role in the film, said in a tweet: “Wow. Everyone caved. The hackers won. An utter and complete victory for them. Wow.

“Saw @Sethrogen at JFK. Both of us have never seen or heard of anything like this. Hollywood has done Neville Chamberlain proud today.”
The dramatic move came after hackers threatened attacks on theatres screening the controversial comedy, which depicts an assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
Sony has no plans to release The Interview at retail or online.
