Microsoft adopts Bitcoin payments across the board with BitPay partnership
Microsoft users can now use Bitcoin to purchase an array of digital goods and services across the computing giant’s broad product range.
Bitcoins can now be used to credit Microsoft accounts
Content will now be available to those using the crypto-currency on Windows, Windows Phone, Xbox Games, Xbox Music, or Xbox Video stores.
Users can add credit to their Microsoft accounts from their Bitcoin wallets as the firm looks to offer consumers a greater range of payment options.
The payments will be processed by BitPay but is, at the moment, only available to US users. It will likely be rolled out internationally following its pilot stage.
The announcement helped boost the value of a Bitcoin from $340 to $360 this morning (11 December).
International brands have recently started taking more notice of Bitcoin - in September BitPay announced a partnership with PayPal to also process its transactions.
