“This is a business imperative” Janet Riccio, executive vice president of Omnicom and dean of Omnicom University has said of the need for companies to have diverse, inclusive management teams and boards that are able to financially outperform those who do not.

Introducing a recent Omniwomen panel in Chicago discussing how women can successfully work within a stressful environment, Riccio added that it was “not a women’s issue” but instead a “business imperative.”

The panel of five was made up of Barri Rafferty, chief executive of Ketchum North America, Morgan Flatley, chief marketing officer of Gatorade and Propel, Tonise Paul, chief executive of Energy BBDO, Robin Shapiro, president and chief operating officer of CAHG and Dr Sharon Melnick.

Flatley advised that in meetings she avoids looking at her phone and computer in order to be “fully present” and to engage within the meeting, as one way of getting the most out of generally stressful and busy day, while Shapiro advised giving back to someone a daily basis, be it advice or support.

They also discussed the impact technology has made on their working days, how they organised their personal lives away from their professional ones and how they approach the process of pitching within their private lives.
