North Korea denies masterminding Sony Pictures hack
North Korea has belatedly moved to refute allegations that it had orchestrated a cyber-attack on Sony Pictures computer network, after falling under the spotlight of suspicion in recent days.
Last week’s leak saw several unreleased films posted on the internet forcing the film producer to close down its networks leading some to speculate that the rogue state may have planned the attack in retaliation to its latest film, The Interview, which mocks the hermit kingdom and its leader.
Interestingly The Interview was the one film not to be leaked following the attack.
Seeking to quash these rumours an unnamed North Korean diplomat told Voice of America: “Linking [North Korea] to the Sony hacking is another fabrication targeting the country. My country publicly declared that it would follow international norms banning hacking and piracy.”
Previously the totalitarian regime had adopted a more nuanced stance, asking reporters to ‘just wait and see’ who the culprits were.
