Young Innovator Nominee: Brittany Allen, Vox Media

December 1, 2014 | 3 min read

Brittany Allen

Current gig: traffic analyst, Vox Media

Why she is nominated: In the past year, Brittany has grown from a college student to graduate to full-time Traffic Analyst at Vox Media and Founder of Hustle & Prep to speaker. While a student, Brittany successfully managed her own freelance photography business organically growing 99% of her clients via referrals from successful events. She also spent a lot of time writing whether it was for LinkedIn, socialmediaweek.org, hustleandprep.co, anybritt.com or her university's newspaper.

After college Brittany went on to do freelance work for a company she'd previously volunteered for and when that gig was over she set sail to San Francisco, California to work at a startup. Brittany prides herself on being in control of her life so after 4 months of watching the growth of the startup she joined rapidly decline, she quit and moved back home (and beat being laid off). Once back home, Brittany tapped into her entrepreneurial side to create another opportunity for herself, Hustle & Prep. The need for the company became evident to her when requests from friends asking for career advice, email writing tips, and resume help would not stop pouring in.

Two months after Brittany founded Hustle & Prep she also landed a job as a Traffic Analyst at Vox Media. Getting into the world of data analytics was something Brittany dreamed of ever since being a sophomore in college. However, previous opportunities led her to build most of her experience on the content creation side. Despite this, Brittany knew that if she could quantify her past work achievements and make her resume results-oriented she'd have a shot at being an analyst.

Now 70 days in, Brittany has already found herself consulting with all 8 of Vox Media's brands to: make content recommendations, inform on growth strategies, and build innovative tools that the editorial teams can use to be successful. Along the way Brittany has proven her experience to be useful and found ways to transform it into actionable insights for others to capitalize on.

Most recently, she spoke about the importance of celebrating failure and the power of vulnerability at the Get Sh*t Done Summit in NYC. Brittany consistently proves that she is ambitious, resourceful, and creative. She is truly a young innovator and this is only the beginnings of what her inquisitive mind will construct!
