The new features will go live on 17 November ahead of the seasonal holiday shopping period beginning with the aim of simplifying the consumer shopping experience and join instore and online platforms.

The interactive maps will aim to help consumers locate items they are searching for by overlaying item locations using a pin within a store map while the shopping lists will also offer the isle location of a product and link through to the interactive map of the store.

Meanwhile, auto-complete and type-ahead functions have been added to the app's search capability while Black Friday sales maps will also be uploaded.

Alan Wizemann, vice president of product for Target.com and mobile, explained that the retailer wanted to develop its mobile experience for guests.

“We believe the new shopping lists and maps make it easier than ever to shop Target. While we’ve got a lot more mobile innovation to come, we look forward to guest feedback on these new experiences so that we can continue to refine and enhance them," he added.

Josh Marti, CEO and co-founder of Point Inside, added: "Mobile’s influence on in-store retail is rapidly expanding and we believe that the best retailers will benefit greatly by satisfying customer demand for mobile-assisted in-store shopping.”

Target recently announced that it was to overhaul its iPhone app to include simpler navigation and a one-touch online checkout feature through Apple Pay. The retailer's desktop and mobile websites have also been revamped, with the iPad app now featuring user generated content with further links to Pinterest and Instagram.
