Facebook shines and mobile is the star: up 39% on the year

Facebook yesterday reported Q3 revenue and earnings per share that beat analysts’ expectations. CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg said simply, “This has been a good quarter with strong results."

Particularly impressive was mobile , bringing in approximately 66% of advertising revenue for the third quarter of 2014, up from approximately 49% of advertising revenue in the third quarter of 2013.

Mobile daily active users were 703 million on average for September 2014, an increase of 39% year-over-year.

Monthly active users (MAUs) were 1.35 billion as of September 30, 2014, an increase of 14% year-over-year. Mobile MAUs were 1.12 billion as of September 30, 2014, an increase of 29% year-over-year.

Revenue in the three months ended in September rose to $3.2 billion, yielding earnings per share of 43 cents. Analysts had forecast $3.12 billion and 40 cents.

Facebook’s monthly active users rose 13.5%, year over year, to 1.35 billion.

Facebook shares were virtually unchanged at $80.73, in late trading. Daily active users rose 19%, to 864 million. Ad revenue rose 65% to $2.96 billion.

Maek Zuckerberg added, "We continue to focus on serving our community well and continue to invest in connecting the world over the next decade.”

Revenue - Revenue for the third quarter of 2014 totaled $3.20 billion, an increase of 59%, compared with $2.02 billion in the third quarter of 2013.

Revenue from advertising was $2.96 billion, a 64% increase from the same quarter last year.
