Rio Ferdinand hit with three match ban and £25k fine over sexist tweet
Former England captain Rio Ferdinand has landed in hot water after posting a derogatory remark about women on Twitter.
The QPR defender was slapped down with a three-match ban and £25k fine and will also be forced to attend an educational programme organised by the FA after a misconduct charge against him was proven.
In a statement the FA said: "It was alleged a comment Ferdinand posted on his twitter account was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper. It was further alleged that this breach was aggravated pursuant to FA Rule E3(2) as the comment included a reference to gender.
"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Wednesday 29 October, Ferdinand was also fined £25,000, severely warned as to his future conduct and ordered to attend an education programme, arranged by The FA within four months."
Ferdinand’s ban will take place with immediate effect, potentially seeing him sit out games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle unless any appeal should be successful
