Skrill and Paysafecard has promoted its recently appointed chief commercial officer, David Sear, to the role of chief executive effective 1 January 2015.

Sear, who joined the company in July of this year, will replace Siegfried Heimgaertner, who has been chief executive since June 2012. He will assume a position on Skrill’s Global Advisory Board, providing strategic direction to the company.

During his time with Skrill, Heimgaertner completed both the acquisition of paysafecard and the sale of a controlling stake in Skrill to CVC Capital Partners.

Sear commented: “Our aim is to make payments even safer, easier and more mobile, ensuring that every customer and transaction counts. I look forward to working with the fantastic teams across the Group and with our shareholders to deliver great products that customers need in this evolving world of digital transactions.”

Sear previously headed up Weve, the mobile joint venture between EE, O2 and Vodafone.
