Amazon has launched a new same-day pick-up service in the UK as a result of a partnership with newspaper distributing group Smiths News.

Amazon launches new parcel pickup service

The ‘Pass My Parcel’ initiative will see packages delivered to over 6,000 locations, including 500 newsagents, across the country on the same day they are ordered with Amazon claiming it will expand the number of drop-off points in the coming year.

Amazon Prime subscribers will receive the service for free until 2015 with orders made before 4pm delivered to the selected outlet later that day.

Christopher North, managing director of Amazon UK, said: “This is our fastest pick-up service yet.

“Our intention is to keep rapidly adding to the many thousands of existing pick-up locations to ensure that customers all over the UK are provided with as much choice as possible when it comes to the delivery of their Amazon order.”

The e-commerce giant has also rolled out the Express Morning delivery service which will see consumers emailed a pick-up code to display to holders at participating outlets, the next morning. The package will cost £4.99 for non-subscribers of Amazon Prime after its initial launch.

The firm last week announced that it will trial its first physical store in New York in a bid to capitalise upon Christmas sales and give Amazon a high-street presence.
