72andSunny opens New York office with former W+K São Paulo ECD at the helm

72andSunny has opened a New York office with Guillermo Vega and James Townsend taking on the roles of executive creative director and managing director respectively.

Joining from Wieden + Kennedy São Paulo, where he is credited with growing its team from three to 100+ employees in four years, Vega has worked with clients including Nike, Coca-Cola, Levi’s and Heineken. Prior to joining W+K Vega spent over 13 years at Y&R rising to regional creative director and overseeing Latin America from the Y&R headquarters in New York.

As 72andSunny executive creative director Vega will lead the officer along with Townsend who relocates from Los Angeles where he played an active role in the work and partnership with brands such as Samsung and ESPN.

John Boiler, CEO of 72andSunny, commented: “NYC talent rocks the world. We’ve always wanted to create a home for folks who believed that a spirit of optimism can create the best work in the business. I can’t think of any place in the world more ‘can do’ than New York.”

At present the office boasts a 40-strong team of designers, writers, strategists, social media planners, brand managers and content producers housed within the 13,000 square foot office in the heart of the East Village. Chief strategy officer, Matt Jarvis, added: “We think we’re better for being part of the New York creative community – and we think that we can make it a little bit better by being there.”

The New York office will initially support the Samsung and Smirnoff brands.
