Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system has got off to a flying start after 1m people downloaded a preview version of the interface after making it available to the public for a two week period.

The technical preview has been released in order to test functionality, generating no less than 200,000 individual pieces of feedback as a result.

In a blog post, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore, commented: “…this is going to be a different Windows. We’re going to share our plans and progress with you earlier and more often as we want to build a Windows that everyone will love and really enjoy using.

“People on the team are hard at work poring through all the feedback, categorizing and processing it, and cycling it back into our development," he wrote. "It’s early days right now, but you’ll see the fruits of your engagement over the next year as you’ll see the product evolve.”

Microsoft is adopting a different tack for Windows 10 following criticism that the previous Windows 8 iteration placed too much emphasis on compatibility with touchscreen functionality.

This will see reintroduction of the Start menu although the final fruits of these labours won’t be released until next year.
