Poundworld has had an online ad on its website banned after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) deemed it contained misleading information about its pricing.

Text on the Poundworld website stated “everything £1", however a consumer said they had seen ‘manager special’ items in-store for £3 and £8.99.

Responding to this, Poundworld said it viewed its manager special items as a service in addition to its £1 products, which were special offers that usually ran during the Christmas period as well as at “random and infrequent” occasions throughout the year.

The retailer added that it had taken steps to ensure that the items under the manager specials were distinguishable in store from the £1 items and separate from them.

The ASA said that the claim on the website suggested every item in the store would be priced at £1, but because that was not the case, it concluded that the claim was misleading.

The claim must not appear again in its present form.
