Anyone tired of having their doormat cluttered by a steady drip of bills and statements is in for a treat courtesy of Google after the search giant updated its voice recognition software to allow people to take charge of their financial affairs direct from their smartphone.

Now instead of rummaging through bank statements to work out what bills need paying users can simply ask Google, literally, by tapping the mic icon on the Google app and repeating their question out loud.

Terms the software will be able to assist on include ‘show me my bills’ and ‘my bills due this week’.

Assuming the pament due date and amounts reside within a registered Gmail account the software is clever enough to dig through the data and display a quick summary of pending and past bills.
